Games and Moral Panic: 2500 Year History

Drawing from my research and a popular article written by Lindsay Grace in 2020, this talk discusses how moral panic around games has not only persisted since Buddha, but that it's been a part of worry around social change. Whether the dice games of Ancient Rome, Pinball in mid-century New York, or Fortnight globally attaching moral concern to games has often been the product of misaligned blame and worry. This talk draws on a variety of interviews and articles Linsday gave in 2019 as well as incorporating new observations.
